Gay Newsweek, Gay New Yorker

Can't really leave this town and neighborhood without a quick nod to the two magazine covers that came out in the two weeks I was here ...

Let alone Obama's truly historic admission within a day or two of my arrival that he believes gays should be able to marry. To have had this happen whilst walking and shopping and living amongst these folks was pretty fucking amazing, and cool.

I'm sure these covers, particularly the former, will upset a lot of folks. I just truly wish they could hang out and walk amongst these people and see that they're real, and that this actually impacts their lives not only legally, but psychologically. It's a sad fact, in 2012, that it takes political courage and balls for the president of the U.S. to acknowledge gays' existence and humanity in this way, and their right to such basic, no brainer stuff.   That this - their eagerness to join in on boring old, conservative old marriage - hardly sexy stuff, would be at all 'controversial' is just beyond pathetic.

So on behalf of the homos here, thanks Barack. They aren't happy, mind you, that you also said in that same interview that it should still be up to the states to decide - UGH ! - how on earth can a black man say such a thing when interracial marriage was once outlawed in most, if not all states??

But yes, his statement is still worthy of praise.
